New Features

  • The love affair between photographers and mobile websites is often lukewarm. It would be nice if everyone used cinema display monitors to view your images. However, we cannot ignore the fact that more and more visitors are viewing your website on mobile phones than ever before.  Mobile browsing has doubled since 2009, and the numbers just keep going up. Having a great mobile website is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. With the recent mobile upgrades, visitors to your Redframe powered website will have a better experience viewing your products on their mobile devices, thus creating a better impression of your work. What’s New? It’s Faster.  The mobile Web is significantly slower than what people are now used to on WiFi or broadband connections. Mobile devices operating under a 3G network are still delayed in download speeds and many users still pay for bandwidth. Redframe for mobile  has been rebuilt from the ground up for optimal performance. Every bit and byte has been scoured over to make sure it has a useful purpose. The result is a faster loading and better-performing website on mobile devices. More Refined. The new mobile upgrade will result in your site content adapting to smaller screens making it easier to see on mobile phones. This means that your customers will not need to zoom in to read and view content.  The new mobile gallery  is an elegant presentation of your work with a seamless touch interface that makes viewing web images on the phone a pleasant experience. More Intuitive. As more people use their phones to access websites, they develop new habits while navigating mobile websites. Redframe takes advantage of this to deliver a robust new menu system that makes it much easier for your customers to find what they are looking for. Your visitors can browse your site with one...

Coming soon – Better Online Proofing

Our development team has been hard at work to introduce a sleek new platform for improved online proofing. It will improve the experience for your customers when you share their images with them, as well as giving then a platform that they are proud to show off to their friends, colleagues and clients. With a stunning cover image and the ability to include multiple galleries, it all adds up to a better way to help you show and share your images and sell more. Q. How is this different than the current private galleries format? A. This will have the appearance of a special mini site that you have created just for your client. Allowing them to focus on the work that you have created specifically for them. Q. How will this help me? A. This is a really elegant solution to showing that is another tool for selling your work. It will also allow you to keep the proofing galleries public (ie. not requiring a password) without making them visible to all visitors to your website. This allows you to keep your main website message geared to marketing your services without cluttering up the navigation with galleries you don’t want everyone to see anyhow. Q. Anything Else?   The Online Proofing area is built to adapt  to everything from mobile devices up to cinema display monitors, always providing an elegant and intuitive experience. The shopping cart is included and is also designed to work from mobile devices on up. We hope to be launching this feature in the near future and will need some Redframe users to help as early testers for the product. If you are interested in getting early access and helping out, please leave a message in the comments below.
  • We’ve quietly released a new feature that allows you to have pages and galleries that don’t appear in your websites menu system. How does this help you and how would you ever use it? I’m glad you asked. Let’s looks at a few scenarios. 1. Online Proofing / A hidden gallery. Do you want to share a gallery that you don’t want all your visitors to see but you also don’t want to require a password to log in to. For example, you’ve just shot a wedding and want to share it among the wedding party. All you need to do now is make it a private gallery. You can then share the link via email and your clients can deep link directly to their gallery. Meanwhile their gallery will not appear in your web site menu, so your other clients won’t be distracted by it. Previously, a private gallery needed to have a customer account attached, requiring a username and password. This feature is still available, but no longer necessary for galleries that you don’t need security for, you just don’t want the general public looking at them 2. Hidden galleries accessed only from a portfolio page. This is good an option if you want to follow a minimalist approach. You’ll keep your menu navigation uncluttered but your clients can access the galleries from a portfolio home page. In this scenario, you could have a simple menu that only has home, portfolio, and contact as options. When portfolio is clicked on, the user goes to a page you’ve built with links to the galleries you want them to access. You can even skip a separate “Portfolio” page all together and do the same thing on your home page. 3. A hidden page. Why would you ever need a hidden...

    Using the Background Slideshow Feature

With the recent release of our latest designs we have added the ability to have a slideshow running as the background to your site. This setting will be turned on by default in the latest designs (Waipio, Odyssey, and Kailua), but can be used in any Redframe website. If you are working from one of the designs that uses a background slide show by default, all you need to do is go to the editor and upload your own images to use. Images in a landscape mode will work best.  It is also a good idea to ensure that you are uploading a large format of the image you want to use. Images that are smaller than the screen area will be stretched to fit and the results might not be what you desire.   Let’s quickly go through the process. We’ll start by opening the Background Slide Show Editor from the menu. The uploader interface is pretty straight forward. Either drag the images you want to upload from your computer on to the Add Photos area, or click on the area and select the files from your hard drive. Uploading will begin immediately and our servers will to the work to optimize your files for best results. Once uploaded, you can arrange the order of your images by dragging them into desired order of appearance.       Advanced Controls Once your images are uploaded and arrange in the correct order, you have the ability to make a few other alterations to how your background slide show behaves.   The most commonly used option will be for control over the transition speed . This is the amount of time each image of the slideshow is displayed before transitioning to the next image. If you are using a large number...

  • Have you ever been looking at your images, and leaned in towards your monitor to get a closer look? Ever hold your iphone less than one foot from your face to get a look at some details? Bigger TV’s, bigger monitors, bigger smartphones- consumers have driven the prices of these luxuries down, and Redframe has taken that idea to heart. When you work hard to capture someone’s perfect moment, or create something inspiring, sometimes you want it to be displayed it a BIG way. Now with our new Large Image Viewer, you can enjoy the same sharp custom look that you are used to with Redframe only larger on the screen making your work the primary focus of your site. Your background design, menu tabs and sidebar will all clear off the monitor making way for our largest image display yet. Even the navigation tools for the gallery will disappear when not in use, using the screen to fully display the details you have captured. Navigating through the gallery images is also quicker and easier with the large Image Viewer. You can quickly scroll through the images in the gallery because a larger amount of thumbnail images appear at the bottom of the screen when the mouse is in use, or the arrow keys are used. You can click right on the gallery name to view, or hide the thumbnails. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, or the arrow keys on the screen can really accelerate the scrolling system enabling customers to visually search through the gallery with ease (bigger and faster… what will they think of next?!) You can choose this new gallery layout from your Redframe dashboard by going to ‘manage your galleries’ under ‘main menu’, then clicking ‘ layout’, or you can use our real Time...
  • Some things are just meant to go together. Chocolate and peanut butter, Abbot and Costello, Rum and Coke, Milli and Vanilli. Okay, maybe not everything, but combining your website’s editing tools with your website is a match that pairs together well. In our continuing effort to make managing your website even simpler, we are happy to introduce the Real-time Website Editor. This appears as a bar over your website and allows you immediate access to many of your most common site management tasks. Rest assured that your clients and anyone who visits your site will not see this bar. If you don’t wish to have the bar open, simply log out. To log back i,n a little gear will appear on the right edge of your site window. Now that we have established what it is, let’s take a look at what it can do. [raw] [one_half] [/one_half] [one_half last] [/one_half] [clear] [/raw] When you have the Real-time Website Editor open, you have immediate ability to make changes to the page or gallery that you are viewing in your website. If you want to make changes to a gallery, simply navigate to that gallery and then the “Edit This Gallery” option will appear as a green button on the editor. From there you have the option of changing the layout of the gallery, editing the existing images, or adding images to it. If you choose to change the layout or add images, you will see the changes to your gallery immediately. Finally, instant gratification! Editing one of your pages works in much the same way. Simply go to the page of your website that you want to update and a blue “Edit This Page” button will appear. Clicking on this will bring up the Page Layout Editor where you can...
